Karils Crossbow is a pretty neat weapon that could fit snugly into the range meta. It's slightly better than a magic shortbow with rune arrows, and obtaining it for ironmen isn't too difficult (ammo included, there's an NPC shop). You could practice/simulate fight caves in these worlds without the loss of supplies. I would say the dps increase from the Karil'ls compensates for the loss of prayer from the book (the longer you have to kill magers + have mage pray on the more ppots you use per wave). Does not degrade. Armadyl Helm is 1.6m, not an exorbitant amount. Also good for ranging wyrms and is much better than killing them with a D scimmy. Can even wear MA2 for extra magic defence. I doubt it matters too much. I have been learning zulrah fairly successfully with blessed dhide and mystics.

Karil's is better but only very marginally so it's probably not worth using over d'hide once you facotr in repair costs. mage def barely matters at zulrah since the only magic damage you take is from the mage snakelings, and karil's range defense is barely better than black d'hide (+4 total from top and bottom).
